SUDAN DYE CANCER THREAT UPDATE

Sudan 1 DyeThe EU will continue further checks into the Sudan Dyes threat. A number of products have been removed from retailer’s shelves and food supplier’s as the dye is a suspected genotoxic carcinogen (could cause cancer).

The Food Standards Agency is working with a number of Local Authorities to stop the supply of the dye, normally used as a red colouring in chilli powder, chilli products or curry powder.

The argument continues over how much salt we should have in our diet. The Salt Manufacturers’ Association have recently complained to the Advertising Standards Agency following claims made by the Food Standards Agency that “to much salt” can pose a risk to heart health.
